Gradiate.

Originally inspired by the transformation of light through the seasons, Gradiate is a contemporary pendant light that uses a pulley system to shift between ambient luminous states. When fully open, harsh, shadowy forms are projected from a direct, bright light, but when closed, a dim, diffused glow gives way to softened, sedate casts.

Composed by a fusion of clear and sea blue glass, two vessels, one appearing as an elongated, yet smaller, version of the other, are suspended around a central post. From within each form, bright lights cast a gradient of textured shadows and color onto surrounding surfaces. Just below, a frosted disc hovers, capturing and displaying yet another projection. With a vertical push of the cylindrical handle beneath, the assembly condenses and a blue cast takes over, blanketing the space and dimming the object’s glow.
